The Reivers and the Making of The Borders

The Reivers and the Making of The Borders

From the early 14th century to the end of the 16th, the Anglo-Scottish borderlands saw one of the most intense periods of warfare and disorder in modern Europe. With conflict between England and Scotland, Borderers suffered from marauding armies, who ravaged the land, destroying crops, slaughtering cattle, burning settlements and killing indiscriminately. Many took to reiving to ensure the survival of their families. In the Borderlands, their names are reminders of a turbulent past.
