The Good Soldier Schweik

The Good Soldier Schweik

Schwejk is not really suitable for the military. Due to his somewhat awkward, leisurely thinking, he is declared unfit for duty. Years go by in which the dog breeder finds his livelihood more right than bad. But the good Schweik is also a very humble man. Shortly after the assassination attempt on Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, he made a rash remark while visiting a pub. While still in the pub, he was arrested for treason and after a while the sentence was converted into military service. Although he does his job reasonably well, his superiors do not enjoy him. Notoriously in a good mood and a bit simple-minded, he brings his superiors to white heat time and time again. So he drinks his fare, mimics the rheumatic handicapped person or puts on an enemy uniform, which ultimately makes him a prisoner of war.
