Magical Albania

Magical Albania

It shows that the country, torn by wars and sealed off for decades by the dictatorship of the communist Enver Hoxha, is the home of warm-hearted people, full of culture and hospitality. Their prevailing poverty contrasts with a great wealth of natural treasures: extensive lake landscapes, pristine coasts, impressive high mountains and diverse flora and fauna characterize this Balkan country the size of Belgium. The peaceful coexistence of Christians and Muslims is of particular current social relevance after the practice of any religion was forbidden during the Hoxha dictatorship from 1944 to 1990. On their trip, the filmmakers also encounter war relics such as bunkers and border installations, listen to traditional Albanian polyphonic singing and visit Tirana, the capital and only real big city in the country..
