The Next Megaquake

The Next Megaquake

The 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake was just the first chapter... Dangers of the next megaquakes are being exposed by the latest science. Why was Japan, which has always been at the forefront of earthquake studies, unprepared for the massive earthquake of March 11, 2011? Now, scientists are racing to understand the mechanisms involved in large-scale earthquakes and tsunamis, by using the vast amount of hard data left by the mega-disaster. The nationwide observation networks captured the "changes" that occurred before and after the fateful day in the underground of as well as in the skies over Japan. What lessons can we learn from the tragedy to catch the earth's signals to next megaquakes and to prevent another devastating damage by them? Using cutting-edge simulations and CGIs, this series explores how the lessons learned can be applied to prepare for future natural disasters.
