In Paradise City, Mario Goossens, the drummer of Triggerfinger, travels to six cities that have been badly hit by natural disasters or human beings: Port-au-Prince, Belfast, New Orleans, Kigali, Hiroshima and Detroit. He sees how the inhabitants found the strength to continue after the catastrophe and how music helped. Many genres of pop history have their origins in misery. Gospel, blues, jazz, soul, R&B, punk, techno, reggae and hip hop, among others, were created in a society that was hard pressed, with few opportunities for development. Music as a healing force that revives hurt cities and their inhabitants. That is the premise of Paradise City.
