The story starts in 1921 and it's about how the complicated loves and decisions of the adults will directly affect their children when they grow up. Jao Karmfah was engaged to Yaowalak, a proper and well-educated lady chosen by the elders. But during a trip to the North of Thailand, he meets and falls in love with Fongkae. He cancels the engagement, leaving Yaowalak heartbroken, and asks for Fongkae's hand in marriage to her parents. Karmfah didn't know Fongkae already had a lover, Yingsak, and they planned to run away before the wedding. Karmfah caught them but he let her go because he saw how much she loved Yingsak. However, Yingsak's mother didn't welcome Fongkae due to her low status, and she was only accepted as his wife because she was already pregnant. But in the meantime, Kiatkong was courting Yaowalak, who still loved Karmfah and decided to settle for Kiatkong. Pleum was hurt and angry when she learned they were getting married. Shortly after she finds out that she's pregnant. Not wanting anything to do with Kiatkong, Pleum accepts the love of Fu, another servant in the palace and lies that her child is his. Mom Jao Kiatkong and Yaowalak have a child named Yingyor, and Pleum's child is named Plewadee. Jao Karmfah never married and still thought about Fongkae.
