South-Tirol

South-Tirol

South Tyrol is the northernmost province in Italy. The region begins at the Brenner Pass on the border with Austria. The journey leads through the mountain range of the Dolomites, through the Vinschgau with its apple orchards, stops in the metropolis of Bolzano and the spa town of Merano and ends at Lake Kaltern, where South Tyrol shows its Mediterranean side. Meran is known as the Nice of Tyrol and was a popular travel destination for the European nobility and well-known artists during the Austro-Hungarian monarchy.
