Fernando Fernán Gómez wrote the original script inspired by the great authors of the picaresque novel of the 16th and 17th centuries: Miguel de Cervantes, Francisco de Quevedo, Vicente Espinel, Salas Barbadillo, Alain René Le Sage and the anonymous author of "Estebanillo González" . It narrates the adventures of the life of Lucas Trapaza, a rogue who, after wandering for years throughout Spain, becomes a master of that lifestyle.
