Who remembers that in 1942, one in seven Moselle inhabitants was a man or a woman of Russian, Polish or Ukrainian origin? Prisoners of war during Operation Barbarossa or families rounded up by the Nazi occupiers, this workforce from the East must support the German war effort in the annexed Moselle. The history of these Slavs is a tormented echo of the Moselle's own tragedy, that of the second Annexation and of these 450,000 Mosellans who became German and forcibly Nazified.
