The honey makers at Tonndorf Castle
Germans love honey. With a per capita consumption of 1.4 kg, they are amazing. Local beekeepers produce around a quarter of consumption. A sound hobby for most. Not for Michael Grolm and Harald Stiefel. For them, beekeeping is both a calling and an existence. Susanne Köpcke accompanied “Die Honigmacher von Schloss Tonndorf” for a bee year. The men care for and cherish over 100 peoples. But before the first honey flows, there is a lot to do. Beekeeping is not a matter of licking honey. Especially when the 30 kilo honey chambers have to be moved. Hanna Thorwart also learned this quickly. She is the "apprentice" in the beekeeping team and is in her third year of training.
