Amaya

A young woman who is born with a snake for a twin is prophesied to end the life of Rajah Mangubat, a ruthless, undefeated warrior-king who reigned over several islands in what is now known as the Philippines during the late 1500s. Despite his efforts at preventing the realization of the prophesy, Amaya is born to Datu Bugna, a chief in an uneasy alliance with Rajah Mangubat. As Amaya is the daughter of a datu, she lives the life of a "binukot", or sheltered princess prohibited from setting foot on the bare ground, with her sisters until her father is accused of rebelling against Rajah Mangubat and is assassinated. Datu Bugna's death was orchestrated by his wife Dian Lamitan in part as revenge for his falling in love with another woman, Amaya's mother, and her political aspirations.
