Three-part documentary charting the history of efforts to protect the nation's heritage. The opening edition looks at the origins of the first arguments of radical thought from people such as John Lubbock MP, Lt Gen Augustus Henry Lane Fox Pitt Rivers, Charles Darwin and John Ruskin, whose work highlighted the importance of preserving the past, and inspired the first piece of legislation safeguarding prehistoric and ancient structures.
