The Parrot

A family that had to flee after a coup in the Netherlands. The printer Johan van Dam opposed the new rulers, the Organization of National Officials, and distributed pamphlets against them. Due to these activities, he has to go into hiding and then flee with his wife and children because he has been betrayed by his neighbor. His son Teun takes the talking parrot Lukas with him. The family applied for political asylum in the imaginary land of Tyros. From here Johan tried to support the resistance in the Netherlands.
