The Hunt Of The Democratic Classroom

The new curriculum states that: "Teaching must be conducted in democratic working methods and prepare students to actively participate in society." But how should this be implemented in practice? Are there really democratic classrooms, and how can students gain more influence without ending up in chaos? We go out into the world in search of concrete examples and visit classrooms in Sweden, Denmark, the USA and in New Zealand. We look at how different schools and teachers have organized their classrooms with a focus on the student's knowledge and influence. The series highlights the teacher's strategies in the classroom and how these contribute to creating a democratic classroom where real knowledge development takes place.
