A wedding is a big event in the lives of most people. But in some cultures, marriage is one of the most important things. For Syriacs, the expectations and preparations for the biggest day of their lives begin as soon as they are born. Great energy and enormous resources are invested in making everything perfect. Relatives and friends are invited from near and far and it is not uncommon for a Syriac wedding in Sweden to have more than 500 guests. The wedding dresses are lavish creations, the hair sets defy all descriptions and the law of gravity. Lots of food should be cooked. The banquet tables are made of flowers. In My Big Fat Syriac Wedding, we will get an insight into a world few outside the Syriac community seen before. We will be following a number of Syriac couples, their friends and families on an amazing journey whose goal is an unlikely grandiose wedding.
