Hitler's Women
From the very beginning Hitler had women to help him. They held him back from suicide, they paid off his debts, they worshipped and desired him, but none of them fitted the image of women that the Nazis wanted to fix in the German consciousness. They weren't passive figures, tied to the kitchen stove. They followed their chosen path with confidence and determination. But were they aware where that path would take them? What contribution did they make to the propaganda, the aura of righteousness which surrounded that murderous regime? This series depicts five lives inextricably intertwined by conscious choices with the destiny of the dictator himself. Using footage from private film archives - some never previously shown in public - as well as interviews with friends, opponents and relatives of the women so close to the Nazi leaders, Guido Knopp and his team create five portraits that provide a unique insight into life behind the scenes of this regime of terror.
