A film version of an unfinished screenplay and diary notes of Aleksandr Dovzhenko. An artist comes to a village to restore a set of icons in a church. Peasants, villagers, whose faces the artist uses as models for images of saints, began to feel some kind of special elation, which absolutely displeases a new revolutionary authority.
