In 1772, the Jeju scholar Jang Han-cheol boards a boat bound for the mainland to take the state examination, but is caught in a storm and set adrift. In 1962, Gang Gwang-bo, a laborer from Jeju, stows away to Japan in order to survive. Omar, from Morocco, set out on an open-ended journey and arrived in Korea in 2007; today, he has drifted ashore on Jeju Island.
